Between 2023 and 2025, WMF Martins Fontes published five new titles by bell hooks for Brazilian readers, with unpublished texts and conversations on feminism, latinidad, education, music and politics, with Stuart Hall, Amalia Mesa-Bains and Cornel West.

At Estúdio Tereza Bettinardi, I designed the series, guided by the idea of bringing new Black voices into dialogue with hooks. I invited two Black Brazilian artists to make the covers: Kika de Carvalho and Mulambö. Ruben, a typeface by Tré Seals inspired by 1970s Chicano protest posters, ties the collection together in titles, chapter numbers and highlights.

The covers are printed on the back of the board, revealing texture and an unexpected shine. Inside, a concise layout centres the text and the dialogue between the authors.
