Novas Frequências is a major festival of electronic and experimental music in Rio de Janeiro, and for the second year in a row I designed its identity. In 2023, for the first time, the festival ran for about 20 days and was decentralised across several parts of the city, with exhibitions, talks, outdoor shows, theatre, parties and samba schools. That spread inspired a multicoloured identity about Carnaval, capturing the fantastical spirit of Rio's Carnival around one main character: the bate-bola. The characters were built in collage, a technique that runs through the whole identity. Confetti, streamers, Bonfim ribbons and the vibrant energy of the samba schools were key to making it saturated and full of elements, much like Carnaval itself, taking experimental music to every corner of the city.
